Florence Nightingale

Lesley Smith was superb as Florence Nightingale at St.Augustine’s Church on the 22nd October 2024. This is a brand new character for Lesley and only the second time she has ever performed it we felt rather privileged to see this performance and she didn’t disappoint. Florence Nightingale is often referred to as “the Lady with the Lamp” and is famous for developing modern nursing.

Anne Hathaway

Historian Lesley Smith gave a brilliant performance as Anne Hathaway( wife of William Shakespeare ) to a packed St. Augustine’s church on 20th May 2024. This was the FIRST time she had performed the role for many years . She has revived this character in brand new period costume. She certainly brings history alive with her powerful performances. She also gave reference to her recent performance in the television series ‘Inside Windsor Castle’ which was then used in Gogglebox .She also informed the audience about her forthcoming departure from Tutbury Castle as Curator due to her travelling the Country giving her performances from History. Rugeley & District Lions Club will be hosting an autumn event at St.Augustines Church with Lesley’s latest character ‘ Florence Nightingale’. This will be another FIRST performance for Rugeley. Lions on duty last night were Debra ( President ), Pauline and Chrissie ably assisted by Geoff and Pam from Barton. This is the eighth show starring Lesley we have hosted at the historic St.Augustine’s Church which, proves every time to be a fantastic setting for these Characters from history.
