St George’s Day Concert 2026 – Our Best Yet!
Rugeley & District Lions Club was delighted to host our third annual St George’s Day Concert—and what an incredible evening it turned out to be!
Held at the beautiful St Augustine’s Church, the event welcomed a fantastic audience who enjoyed a night filled with music, entertainment and community spirit.
Organised by our Club President, Debra Coburn, the concert featured superb performances from Becca Gee, Rich Parsons and Millie White.
A special highlight of the evening was Millie’s uplifting Proms-style finale—made even more memorable as she performed on her birthday! The audience joined in wholeheartedly, singing, waving flags and creating a truly celebratory atmosphere.
Bringing the Legend to Life
Adding a fun and theatrical twist, Lions members brought the story of St George to life. Elaine Morgan starred as the Dragon, while John Morgan took on the role of St George.
In a light-hearted reimagining of the legend, St George rescued not one—but two princesses! The princesses were played by Debra Coburn and Mandy Shaw, much to the delight of the audience.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the evening such a success:
Rugeley Town Crier, Adrian Basford – for being a fantastic Master of Ceremonies
Chair of Lichfield Council, Keith Moreton – for his engaging talk on the history of St George
Dawn, Darren and Joan – for their support from St Augustine’s Church
Lion Pauline Holmes – for coordinating ticket sales
Lions Geoff and Pam Trevena (Barton-under-Needwood) – for their valued assistance on the night
Events like this truly reflect what Lions are all about—bringing people together, celebrating community, and having fun while we serve.
