History, scandal, intrigue and plenty of laughter!

What a fantastic evening we enjoyed at St Augustine’s Church, Rugeley, as renowned historian and presenter Lesley Smith stepped into the shoes of the fascinating and somewhat controversial Emma Hamilton.

We were delighted to welcome our District Governor, John Fitchett, who joined us for the evening and helped us celebrate another successful Rugeley & District Lions event.

Lesley brought Emma’s extraordinary life vividly to life, taking us on a fascinating journey from her humble beginnings to becoming a celebrated figure of Georgian society. And, of course, no story about Emma Hamilton would be complete without her famous and rather complicated relationship with Admiral Lord Nelson!

With plenty of fascinating stories, scandal, intrigue and a wonderful touch of humour, Lesley certainly kept everyone entertained. There was never a dull moment as she revealed more about the remarkable woman behind the famous name.

It was certainly an evening of history, laughter and a little bit of scandal, just the way we like it!
