Rugeley & District Lions Club had a fantastic day supporting the Rugeley Charter Fair on Saturday 6th June 2026.
Once again, we were delighted to be part of this wonderful community event, with our Teddy Bear Tombola stall located in the heart of the town centre. Thankfully, the weather was kind to us and we welcomed lots of visitors throughout the day, with many families stopping by to try their luck and win a cuddly toy.
We also proudly took part in the Charter Fair Parade, embracing this year’s summer-themed celebrations with our own colourful music festival-inspired costumes. A special thank you goes to Chris Harborow from Cannock Lions Club, who took on the role of our Lion mascot and did a fantastic job entertaining the crowds and bringing smiles to the faces of children along the parade route.
Representing Rugeley & District Lions Club on the day were Club President Debra Coburn, Elaine and John Morgan, and Mandy Shaw. We were also grateful for the support of Pam and Geoff Trevena from Barton-under-Needwood Lions Club and volunteer Karen Rolston, who helped on our tombola stall throughout the day.
An extra highlight of this year’s Charter Fair was the National Town Criers Competition, which brought Town Criers from across the country to Rugeley. The competition added even more colour, tradition and excitement to an already vibrant event.
Following the parade, Lions members had the honour of being photographed with all of the competing Town Criers on what was a memorable and historic occasion for the town.
Club President Debra Coburn said:
“It was a great honour for our club to be photographed with all the Town Criers on such a historic occasion.”
The Club would like to thank Rugeley Town Council for organising another successful Charter Fair and Town Crier Adrian Basford for hosting the National Town Criers Championship. Their hard work and dedication helped make the day such a tremendous success.
We are proud to support events that bring our community together, and Rugeley Charter Fair continues to be one of the highlights of the year.
Rugeley and District Lions would like to say a big thank you to Valentin Rotaru of VRCreative Studio for capturing us so well on the day.
